Ladies and gentlemen, the Champions League is back!
The international break is now a distant memory, with the biggest club competition in world football returning to our television screens.
And we have some amazing ties to look forward to, including a rematch of the 2017 final as Real Madrid host Juventus.
With so many matches taking place this week (18 to be exact), crafting bets can almost be a bit overwhelming.
But we are here to help, and below you will find our four football betting picks for Matchday 3 of this season’s League Phase.
*All odds are subject to change
Arsenal vs Atletico Madrid: Under 2.5 goals @ 1.85
A real standout tie in this round, Mikel Arteta and Diego Simeone – two masters of pragmatism – face off at the Emirates tomorrow. Premier League table-toppers Arsenal are two wins from two in the Champions League and yet to concede a goal, while the Gunners have only let in three in the English top flight. After three matches in a row featuring five goals or more, things have calmed down for Atleti of late, with a 1-1 draw at Celta Vigo followed by last Saturday’s 1-0 home win over Osasuna. Simeone should revert to a more conservative playing style in North London, while Arteta is never one to take too many unnecessary risks in a big game. With that in mind, a low-scoring thriller looks on the cards.
Barcelona vs Olympiacos: Anytime goalscorer – Marcus Rashford @ 2.00
Barca are struggling with injuries in the forward department, so more responsibility is on the shoulders of Rashford. Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha are both out with injury, while Lamine Yamal is only just returning from a spell on the sidelines. But Rashford should not shirk away from this challenge, especially as he has started life well at Barca. The English winger scored both goals in the 2-1 win at Newcastle on Matchday 1, and has three goals and five assists in 11 appearances across all competitions this season.
Eintracht Frankfurt vs Liverpool: Over 3.5 goals @ 1.89
In case you were unaware, games featuring Eintracht are never boring. The Bundesliga side beat Galatasaray 5-1 on Matchday 1, but then lost 5-1 to Atletico on Matchday 2. In Eintracht’s 10 matches across all competitions this season, 54 goals have been scored, which is quite frankly a ridiculous record. And Liverpool’s combination of a struggling defence and world-class attackers looking to prove a point (Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz in particular) only increases the chances of this being a goal-fest. And keep your eyes peeled for Can Uzun, who has five goals and three assists in six Bundesliga appearances this term.
Real Madrid vs Juventus: Anytime goalscorer – Kylian Mbappe @ 1.67
Real Madrid’s crucial 1-0 win at Getafe on the weekend saw a familiar face land the decisive blow in Mbappe. The Frenchman has begun the campaign in ridiculous fashion, currently sitting on 15 goals from 11 appearances across all competitions. Five of those strikes came in the Champions League, a match-winning brace at home vs Marseille followed by a stunning hat-trick at Kairat Almaty. And after the 2-0 loss at Como, Juve are now six games without a victory, already conceding six goals in this competition courtesy of draws vs Borussia Dortmund (4-4) and Villarreal (2-2). The Old Lady used to be heralded for their defensive skills, but not anymore – and Mbappe may be the latest person to benefit from that fact!
