Chelsea vs Manchester City Preview

City kept the Premier League title race firmly alive on Wednesday evening with a 3-0 victory over Crystal Palace at the Etihad.

The result followed last weekend’s 3-0 success over Brentford, two fabulous responses to the disappointing 3-3 draw at Everton.

Now focus moves away from the Premier League to the FA Cup, with City losing out in each of the last two finals vs Manchester United (2-1) and – more recently – Crystal Palace (1-0).

But Chelsea perhaps represent the ideal opponent, because the Blues have not beaten Guardiola’s side in the previous 13 meetings across all competitions, a quite extraordinary record.

This season’s Premier League fixture at the Etihad finished 1-1, before the Blues cruised to a 3-0 success at Stamford Bridge just last month.

The top flight has been a source of pain for Chelsea of late as well, with last weekend’s 1-1 draw at Liverpool ending a run of six consecutive defeats.

But the Blues did at least beat Leeds 1-0 in the semi-finals during that torrid run, with Enzo Fernandez scoring the only goal of the game.

City had to come from behind to beat Championship side Southampton 2-1, Jeremy Doku and Nico Gonzalez netting late on after Finn Azaz’s stunning opener.

Chelsea vs Manchester City Odds

*All odds are subject to change

Chelsea are, of course, the underdogs ahead of kick-off here, priced at 4.40 to claim the win at Wembley. Another City triumph is at odds of 1.67, while the draw after 90 minutes is 3.92.

Chelsea vs Manchester City Betting Tips

Manchester City to score over 1.5 goals @ 1.65

City scored two or more goals on three of their last four visits to Wembley, a couple of those outings coming in the previous two months vs Arsenal (0-2) and Southampton (2-1). Guardiola’s men also netted three times in each of the last three Premier League games, and with Chelsea’s defence flattering to deceive of late, backing City to score at least twice looks like a solid strategy.

Player to score or assist – Jeremy Doku @ 2.20

Doku has five goal contributions in his last six Premier League appearances, and scored in City’s 3-0 win at Stamford Bridge last month. So the form book points toward the Belgian landing another decisive blow, and the price on offer is very attractive indeed.

Manchester City score in the second half – Yes @ 1.42

Cup finals usually open up more in the second half – a period of play when City are normally at their most ruthless. Both of Nico O’Reilly’s goals in the EFL Cup final win over Arsenal were netted after the break, as was the case for all three of the Citizens’ strikes at Stamford Bridge.
