Horse Racing: Newbury Super Saturday 2026 – Best Bets

A good weekend lies in store at Newbury Racecourse as horses with Cheltenham Festival aspirations go through their final preparations on the racetrack. The Denman Chase and The Game Spirit bring graded action to the card, along with the William Hill Hurdle providing its usual competitive turnout.

As per usual, only the best horse racing odds feature on NetBet for the latest edition of Newbury Super Saturday, and here are four online betting tips for the weekend which should further whet the pre-Cheltenham appetite.

13:00 – KOCKTAIL BLUE – EACHWAY | 12/1

I’m tentatively taking on Sober Glory in the opening contest, and Kocktail Blue wouldn’t have bundles to find to be strongly competitive. It is a warm novice, but with 10 intended runners and three market principles, it only takes one to underperform and you are sitting on a nice each-way bet. Chris Gordon’s gelding was a good second behind a smart horse from Alan King’s yard last time out and a reproduction of that effort should see him hit the frame. Sober Glory and Kadastral set a strong standard, but if they take each other on and lock battle early, it could set up for an outsider to steal the show.

14:10 – L’HOMME PRESSE – WIN | 13/8

I have my reservations about Haiti Couleurs against proper Grade 1 animals, and despite now being 11 years old, L’Homme Presse does still fit that bill. Venetia Williams’ stable star seems to be immune from the poor from surrounding the yard and still showed there is plenty of ability when second in the Cotswold Chase. Charlie Deutsch is fantastic over fences, and this veteran may just have too much for his three rivals. I can envisage a slow-motion finish from two dour stayers, with the selection repelling the short favourite.

14:45 – LULAMBA – WIN | 8/11

A simple selection, but if Lulamba has any aspirations of winning an Arkle, he needs to be winning this quite comfortably. Altior cleaned this race up in three consecutive seasons for Nicky Henderson, and Lulamba could clean this race up in similar fashion. He brings by far the most potential and a touch of star quality, against a field of animals who are stuck in the no man’s land between being a high-level handicapper but short of graded ability. Nothing other than Lulamba has the ability to run to the 160s rating required to take this race, and if the ground doesn’t get too bottomless, we could be in for a special performance.

15:20 – LANESBOROUGH – EACHWAY | 7/1

Mark my words, Lanesborough will win a big handicap in the coming months, and it could be this weekend in the feature handicap of Super Saturday. He appeared to be stretched by a middle-distance trip last time at Kempton, so returning to two miles looks a positive move. He bolted up at Doncaster on his penultimate start and went up 14 lbs from the handicapper. Annoying, but a reflection of his victory. Off a strong pace which looks guaranteed, I expect to see him finishing well, and if he is in the frame with one to jump, his extra stamina should see him go very close.
