13:10 Kelso – Torneo – WIN | 21/10
Due to his consistency, Torneo has risen up the handicap, despite not winning since March 2025 – making things sightly harder and frustrating for connections. Nevertheless, he has been a horse I have followed for a while and often produces a reliable effort. He always shapes like a step up to a middle-distance trip will suit, but in the meantime an extra furlong will have to do for this upcoming occasion. The ground will be fine, the trainer form is good and he is versatile with regards to how he is ridden. Everything is poised for a big run, and he looks as close to a good pick for a placepot as you can get.
14:15 Kelso – Montemaras – EW | 9/2
This Grade 2 Novice Hurdle looks competitive, but there could be more to come from Montemares, who won his first two outings before a strong fourth in the Grade 1 Challow Hurdle. He showcased his ability on debut at Hereford, where he was off the bridle early, before learning on the job and kicking clear to win impressively. It indicated there was plenty more to come. He carried a penalty stylishly at Market Rasen, beating subsequent winners – and if he continues his progression from the Challow, he will be very competitive.
14:55 Kelso – Jet To Vegas – EW | 17/2
The feature Morebattle Hurdle has been won by Cracking Rhapsody on the previous two renewals, and while he is majorly respected in his bid for a third, I am taking him on with a decently-priced alternative. Jet To Vegas never caught fire over fences, but off the back of recent wind surgery and a return to hurdles, Jet To Vegas could improve massively. He holds strong form over the smaller obstacles, winning a Grade 2 over course and distance. And now the Russell and Scudamore yard are back in the winners enclosure, Jet To Vegas may outrun his pre-race odds.
15:45 Newbury – Koukeo – EW | 12/1
I am taking a swing at a big-priced horse in the feature race at Newbury this weekend. Koukeo sneaks into this event at the bottom of the handicap, off a mark of 123. He has progressed nicely this season, winning twice from three starts at Windsor and Haydock. It is a big step up in class, but he still gives the impression that he will only improve with more racing under his belt. Koukeo is up against a group of hardened handicappers, who may have too much for him, but this young horse has taken his form to a new level this year – and could sneak into a place!
