The Grade 2 Oaksey Chase is simply a poor renewal, and with a horse like Blow Your Wad being the favourite, it is inviting me to take him on. No disrespect to the Gary and Josh Moore’s runner, but I\u2019d be surprised if he is a proper graded animal and at the prices, I\u2019d rather side with good ground specialist in Matterhorn. He can be a bit head-strong and is tackling this trip for the first time, but his free-wheeling nature can get his rivals out their comfort zones – and if he stays, he\u2019d hold a big chance.<\/p>\n

Saturday 14:55 | Thistle Ask \u2013 WIN (2\/1)<\/strong><\/h2>\n

I\u2019d be surprised if Jonbon had enough speed to cope with Thistle Ask at two miles on good ground around Sandown – and the Dan Skelton runner may be the best bet of the weekend. We\u2019ve seen in the past Jonbon\u2019s jumping can be sketchy and it will need to be faultless to stay in touch with this enthusiastic front runner. Thistle Ask has progressed at a ridiculous rate this season, improving 45 lbs on his first start for the Skelton\u2019s. And after proving he is Grade 1 class when finishing second in the Clarence House, I think he will take a bit of pegging back this time around.<\/p>\n

Saturday 15:30 | Montregard \u2013 WIN (9\/2)<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Connections of Montregard opted to avoid the Scottish Grand National and come here, with good ground being the decisive factor in the decision. Whilst this is a competitive renewal of the Sandown Gold Cup, Tom Lacey\u2019s runner is very progressive, winning twice from four starts this season, both at Ascot. Like many, he will be tackling this trip of three miles and four furlongs for the first time, but he doesn\u2019t look short of stamina – and his unexposed nature makes him a fascinating candidate. The equally unexposed Havaila is also a big threat.<\/p>\n

Saturday 16:02 | Kabral Du Mathan \u2013 WIN (TBC)<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Kabral Du Mathan was probably the horse I was most impressed with at Cheltenham, of those that never won. And that is a bold statement when you consider the calibre of horses that lined up. He travelled all over the Stayers’ Hurdle field and jumping the last hurdle he looked the only winner. He was the most obvious non-stayer you\u2019ll ever see, so dropping back to this trip will see him very difficult to beat, if March\u2019s effort hasn\u2019t left its mark. He should be in a different league to this field – and can pick up small retribution for last month.<\/p>\n
