Tottenham vs Atletico Madrid – Champions League 2025/26 Match Preview

Tottenham vs Atletico Madrid

Tottenham face an almost impossible Champions League task when Atletico Madrid visit North London.

Igor Tudor’s side trail 5-2 in the last-16 tie after a first-leg implosion inside the Wanda Metropolitano last week.

It was yet another sobering night for Spurs, though a 1-1 draw with Liverpool on the weekend has lifted the negative clouds somewhat.

So we could be in for another European classic here, and here is our full Tottenham vs Atletico Madrid preview, complete with betting tips based on the latest Champions League odds.

Tottenham vs Atletico Madrid Preview

Spurs are still yet to win a Premier League match in 2026, but last Sunday’s draw at Anfield felt like a huge step in the right direction.

Without so many key players – including Cristian Romero and Joao Palhinha following their sickening head clash in Madrid last week – Tudor’s men still performed brilliantly and perhaps deserved more than a point.

But now the big question is; can the North Londoners prove it was not a one-off and deliver a much-improved performance against Atletico?

Spurs fans will rightly be pessimistic with their answers given the team’s woeful home return in the Premier League of two wins from 15 attempts – the worst record in the entire division.

Interestingly, Spurs won all four of their home League Phase matches vs Villarreal, FC Copenhagen, Slavia Praha and Borussia Dortmund without conceding a single goal.

And Atletico’s recent record away from home is anything but spectacular.

In their last four on the road, Diego Simeone’s men were beaten 3-0 by Barcelona, drew 3-3 at Club Brugge in the play-offs and lost 3-0 at Rayo Vallecano – the only saving grace being a 1-0 win vs Real Oviedo.

So there is perhaps room for cautious optimism from a Spurs perspective, though that would quickly disappear if Atletico were to grab the first goal.

Tottenham vs Liverpool Betting Tips

Both teams to score – Yes @ 1.58

As mentioned above, Spurs are yet to concede at home in the 2025-26 Champions League – but we cannot see that record remaining intact here. With the likes of Antoine Griezmann and Ademola Lookman weaving their magic, you have to fancy Atletico to grab at least one goal. Furthermore, this BTTS selection has landed in 10 of the Spanish side’s 11 Champions League games so far this season.

Julian Alvarez to have over 0.5 shots on target @ 1.67

Alvarez is joint-seventh in the Champions League standings for shots on target this season, the Argentine star registering 14 from 10 appearances. He also scored twice in the first leg, so we are a tad surprised to see just how good the odds are for just one SOT here – though we are not complaining one bit!
