Premier League Matchday 17

The festive season is upon us, and Premier League fixtures are coming thick and fast.

Matchday 17 has some huge fixtures on the schedule, including Newcastle vs Chelsea, Liverpool vs Tottenham and Aston Villa vs Manchester United.

All three matches feature in our latest round of Premier League betting tips, and you can check out all the latest live football odds on NetBet right here.

Let’s begin…

*All odds are subject to change

Newcastle vs Chelsea: Player to score or assist – Yoane Wissa @ 2.15

Wissa registered his first goal for Newcastle on Wednesday evening, netting the opener in the 2-1 home win over Fulham. It was the striker’s first start for the Magpies, and his overall performance may very well convince Eddie Howe to name him in the XI for Chelsea’s visit. Wissa has two goals in seven previous appearances vs the Blues, and finished last season with 19 goals and four assists for Brentford. Combine those numbers with Newcastle’s fine home record of late, as well as Chelsea’s recent away struggles, and you have a pretty eye-catching bet.

Manchester City vs West Ham: First goalscorer – Erling Haaland @ 3.10

Haaland’s record against West Ham is quite ridiculous. In six previous appearances vs the Hammers, the Norwegian colossus has tallied nine goals. Last season, Haaland scored five times in just two appearances, registering a hat-trick at the London Stadium and a brace at the Etihad. So his odds to score anytime on Saturday are as low as 1.36 as a result, making this the far more valuable selection. Of course, there is risk attached to it, but Haaland did score first in the 3-0 win at Crystal Palace last weekend.

Liverpool to beat Tottenham @ 2.03

These two sides endured contrasting fortunes last weekend. Liverpool recorded a 2-0 victory over Brighton at Anfield, while Tottenham slipped to a damaging 3-0 defeat at Nottingham Forest. Furthermore, Spurs’ home record this season is atrocious, despite the 2-0 win over Brentford on Matchday 15. Thomas Frank’s men are 17th in the Premier League’s home table with just two wins from eight, and have won only one of the last 15 top-flight matches vs the Reds. Last season’s contest finished 6-3 in Liverpool’s favour, and while we would be shocked to see a similar outcome here, the visitors get our seal of approval.

Aston Villa vs Manchester United: Player to score or assist – Morgan Rogers @ 2.32

After a slow start to the season, Rogers has really delivered for Villa in recent weeks. The England international scored twice in last weekend’s 3-2 win at West Ham, taking him to five goal contributions in his last five Premier League appearances. Against a United side weakened by the AFCON departures of Bryan Mbeumo, Amad Diallo and Noussair Mazraoui, as well Casemiro’s suspension, you have to fancy Rogers to play a major role in Sunday’s contest. United are yet to keep a clean sheet on the road this season either, conceding 14 goals in eight away matches.
